Two of the top colleges in Delhi University's south campus — Sri Venkateshwara College and Lady Shri Ram College — are all geared up to welcome students for the new academic session. From creating and renovating facilities to adding more courses, there is a long list of goodies waiting for students this year.
The Sri Venkateshwara authorities are charged about opening a Bio-informatics facility centre this year. "Not only in DU, this would be the first of its kind centre in the whole of northern India," principal A Sankara Reddy said.
"This centre would not only cater to the biology students with the help of a specially designed software but all science students," he said. The college was selected by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, to establish the centre with an initial funding of Rs 22 lakh.
The college is also starting a new shooting range and a clay court for tennis from this year. This is apart from the new hostel and auditorium the college is inaugurating from October this year. Sri Venkateshwara would be the only college in south campus apart from Lady Shri Ram College to have a hostel for outstation students.
LSR College is building a new studio for its journalism department. Media coordinator of the college Kanika Khandelwal said that the studio would have cameras and tripods and two computers with mac-editing systems for video and audio editing.
The college is also completely refurbishing its library, principal's office and the visitor's room.
