Presiding Officer, MACT, Swarana Kanta Sharma directed Reliance General Insurance Co Ltd, with which the van was insured, to pay the amount to the wife and children of Satish Tyagi.

The court took into consideration the statement of Tyagi's wife Sarita, and eye-witness Raju, besides the FIR registered in the case, to conclude that Tyagi died in the accident on November 30, 2008, with the vehicle being driven in a negligent manner.

"I am of the opinion that the deceased died due to involvement of a vehicle driven by Sachin in a rash and negligent manner," it said.

The court took into account that 49-year-old Tyagi was working as a senior Sub Editor with Hindi daily 'Veer Arjun' and drawing a salary of Rs 10,378 as a permanent employee.
