For designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, a traditionally Indian woman looks beautiful in a sari only when “she also sports lots of gold jewellery.” So when he was asked to interpret the new range of the Tanishq Aarka jewellery creatively through his collection, he chose the colour red which offered sharp contrast to the traditional yellow jewellery.

“I have designed a collection of four saris and lehnga in red to be worn with traditional gold jewellery with a contemporary touch,” he says.

Models Indrani Dasgupta, Poonam Nath and Laxmi Rana looked cool in Sabyasachi’s designs.

Incidentally, Sabyasachi whose bespectacled models in classy sarees won rave reviews at the Lakme India Fashion Week earlier this year sprung a suprise again. He draped some of his models in sarees worn in the traditional Bengali style, while some models carried golden pouch bags as accessories.

When asked why he used South African model Matshibiso Mangole, Sabyasachi said, “her ebony skin creates a striking contrast to the gold jewellery that she’s wearing.”
