Mahindra unveils concept hybrid Scorpio

The two prototypes are among the first in their categories to be developed in India, the company said after unveiling them at the Auto Expo.
Mahindra also showcased eight other concept vehicles... Mahindra Legend, Scorpio Passion, Bolero Inspira, Scorpio ceo, Scorpio Lifestyle (Doublecab), Bolero Commando, Bijlee (Zero-emission vehicle) and Scorpio Technology Vehicle.
"The vehicles on display clearly demonstrate M&M's efforts to become a global cult brand in the next five years and also known as an environment friendly company," M&M Vice Chairman and MD Anand Mahindra said.
He said that futuristic hybrids and fuel cell technologies were an important component of the company's growth statergy.
M&M Automotive sector President Pawan Goenka said the new concept Scorpio hybrid and the hydrogen Alpha were perfect examples of how the company balanced the need of customers along with environment protection.
The company is the first to announce a hybrid passenger vehicle in India, powered by a diesel engine and batteries, he added.
The Scorpio hybrid vehicle is propelled using common-rail diesel technology and an electric trans-axle supported by a traction battery. On the other hand, the Alpha uses compressed gaseous hydrogen and can give a range of 170 km.
The company said the hybrid technology of Scorpio was completely transparent and seamless and gave an impressive 15-16 km per litre delivering up to 600-700 km on one tank of fuel.
