PREPARATIONS ARE on for Lucknow Mahotsav, its theme this year being ‘virasat bhi vikas bhi’. Divisional Commissioner RK Mittal released on Friday season tickets for the annual fair to be held from November 25 to December 5 on Ambedkar Maidan, Jail Road.
This year, the organising committee had ensured there was no overlapping of events, said the divisional commissioner, adding that cultural programmes as part of the 10-day event would commence from November 22. “There have been complaints from people of Lucknow that they miss most events because they overlap,” said the commissioner.
He said the season ticket would cost Rs 50, while the ordinary ticket would be for Rs 10 each. Inauguration of the mahotsav by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav would be followed by shehnai performance by the waris of Ustad Bismillah Khan. Other events include Kavi Sammelan on November 26, performance by Udit Narayan on November 27, devotional songs by Parvati Khan and Anup Jalota on November 28, Bhappi Lahiri and Vinit on November 29 and a dance programme depicting 2550 years of Nirvana of Buddha on November 30. Lined up for December 1 is Lucknow Virasat- Jaan-E-Alam highlighting chikan art, Mushaira on December 2, performance by Alisha Chinoi on December 3 and performance by Shankar- Ahsan-Loy on December 4, the last day at the closing ceremony to presided over by Governor TV Rajeswar.
The Commissioner said tickets would be made available at various hotels in the city.
The hotels would be given incentives of 10 per cent for selling tickets. He further said this time, fees for stalls had been reduced by Rs 1,000/-. Special care would be taken to ensure that performers and stall owners were given due attention, he added. During the mahotsav, the transport department would organise transport for the people to reach the venue.
