IN A major strike, burglars targeted a house in Amaltas Phase-II Colony at Chuna Bhatti and decamped with jewellery worth nearly Rs 6 lakh late Wednesday night.

The family was asleep on the first floor and had locked the door from inside at night. In the morning they found the kitchen rummaged and the bag containing jewellery that was hidden by the family in a drum full of grains inside the kitchen was missing.
Shell-shocked family members found the door ajar and the empty jewellery boxes lying outside. The fact that the burglars did not break the lock to steal the jewellery from the drum, suggests possibility of involvement of someone close to the family, police said.
The families of the complainant, Jitendra Giri, a businessman in MP Nagar and his brother live in the house. Both the families sleep on the upper floor.
Forensic experts and the police sniffer dog have so far drawn blank. The dog went up to a slum cluster nearby and lost track. The Kamla Nagar police are investigating.
Burglars also struck at the house of one Shariq Khan near Ginnauri. The family members had gone for Eid shopping and returned late in the night only to find the house burgled.
The almirahs and door locks were broken open and valuables and jewellery worth around Rs 50,000 were missing. Ironically the burglaries occurred just when the police had claimed to have arrested members of the dacoit gang that had struck terror in the State capital recently
