Major fire at 5-star hotel; one injured
A MAJOR fire broke out in the kitchen of Hotel Landmark, the only five star hotel in the city, here on Monday. The fire caused minor injury to an employee and nominal damage to the property.
A MAJOR fire broke out in the kitchen of Hotel Landmark, the only five star hotel in the city, here on Monday. The fire caused minor injury to an employee and nominal damage to the property.
Surprisingly, when the incident took place, all the fire-fighting equipment installed at the hotel did not function properly. The news of fire caused panic among owners of shops near the hotel which is situated in Parade. On receiving the news, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
The kitchen, where the fire broke out, is located on the 10th floor of the hotel.
Although hotel employees tried to put out the fire, they failed to prevent it from spreading. Slowly, the fire covered about three meter radius of the area of the kitchen.
However, the police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
The Fire Service sources said that since the hotel was centrally airconditioned, smoke created a lot of problem. The police and Fire Service personnel broke the windowpanes of the hotel to let the smoke belch out of the room.
Sources further said that short circuit was the reason for the fire. They said, “Though hotel is well-equipped with fire safety measures, the employees were hesitant to make the use of the fire safety measures.” When asked about the reason for the same, the sources said that there might be lack of training in handling fire safety measures. Some equipment installed in the place where the broke out did not function properly. Talking to the HT, security officer of the hotel Anand Grover said that the hotel staff was being imparted training to deal with incident of fire.
