A major fire broke out in the barracks of 16th CRPF battalion in Mathura with personal belongings worth lakhs belonging to jawans gutted.
"Roughly all the belongings of Jawans valued several lakh was gutted as the fire broke on Tuesday midnight. Due to coincidence of storm, the fury of fire was devastating," Commandant Chandra Bhusan said.
"Meanwhile it was noticed that handicapped CRPF Jawan Ashok was engulfed in fire.
Without loosing a second Jawan Rajendra Masih braving fire rushed inside. Though he managed to take out Ashok however his SLR and magazine fell in the fire", Bhusan said.
One of the legs of Jawan Ashok had to be amputated in J&K when a terrorist bullet hit his leg.
He had put aside his artificial leg to take rest, when the fire broke out.
