A day after the charred body of a man was pulled out from a gutted car on the Noida-Greater Noida expressway, the victim's wife and four-year-old daughter were found dead at their apartment Sunday. In a gruesome twist, the police said the duo was murdered around three days ago and the deceased man may have been involved in the murders.

The body of the man was burnt beyond recognition but the police was able to identify the victim as Nitin Rohilla after tracing the registration number of his WagonR.

As this investigation was going on, residents of Prateek Laurel apartment in Noida's sector 120 called up the cops complaining of a foul smell coming from a flat located on the fourth floor.

It turned out the apartment was rented to Rohilla. When police broke into the flat they found Rohilla's wife Parul's, 29, body on the chair in the drawing room while his daughter Aaishi, 4, was found lying on a bedding near the kitchen. Blood stains were found in both rooms and an 'iron cutter', believed to be the murder weapon, was also recovered. Based on decomposition of bodies, police said the duo was killed about three days.

The flat's landline had been disconnected and the battery from Parul's mobile had been removed, police said.

"It is clear the victim (Parul) resisted the killer. There are wounds on her neck and chest… the bodies have been sent for postmortem," said a senior police officer.

Parul's brother Neeraj claimed that a nervous Rohilla had called him up on Saturday to tell him that they had fought and everything was finished. When Neeraj asked about Parul and Aaishi, Rohilla said they were at home and hung up. A few hours later, Rohilla's charred body was pulled out of the burnt WagonR. Police suspect Rohilla's involvement in the murders.

An FIR has been registered on the complaint of Parul's relatives.

"We are investigating the case from all the angles and are not ruling out involvement of Rohilla behind the murders. But conclusion can be only drawn after detailed investigation and postmortem report of all the three deceased," said Preetinder Singh, senior superintendent of the police.

He added that the burnt body had been sent for postmortem and a DNA test would be conducted to ascertain identity, "So far we are guessing that it was being driven by Rohilla".

"We are also checking CCTV footage of the flats to check Rohilla's movement and are examining his call details and locations to know the exact sequence of events," said Singh.

Rohilla was a mechanical engineer working with Yamaha motors. He last went to office on July 16 -- the last time his wife and daughter were seen.

On July 17, Rohilla sent a text message to his boss that he was unwell and could not attend the office. On July 19 he allegedly called up Neeraj. Few hours later, Rohilla was found dead. Eyewitness claimed there was a loud noise in the car after which it caught fire. The doors locked up and trapped the driver inside.
