Man held for raping, killing 7-year-old neighbour
A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a neighbour in Thane’s Lokmanya Nagar on Friday.
A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a neighbour in Thane’s Lokmanya Nagar on Friday.
Chandrashekhar Gupta (25), allegedly raped the girl and killed her by repeatedly hitting her head on a rock. The residents of the locality tracked him and handed him to the police.
“The accused used to stay with his sister who was the girl’s neighbour. On Thursday, the girl was playing with her friends when he allegedly lured her with a chocolate,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Ashok Deshbhratar.
Gupta took the girl to an
isolated spot at the foot of the Mama-Bhanja hill and raped her. He panicked when the girl started crying. “Afraid she would tell her parents, Gupta killed her by hitting her head on a rock,” said Deshbhratar.
The victim’s father, Ramesh Madheshya, said, “My daughter knew the accused. We never suspected him of such brutality. He should be hanged.”
Gupta works in the casting department of a renowned firm. He moved out of his sister’s house after getting married and shifted a few lanes away from the victim’s chawl. His wife is pregnant and is at her mother’s house.
“We found bloodstains on his clothes and scratches on his neck. We also recovered the stone on which he smashed her head,” Deshbhratar said.
He said Gupta was allegedly thrown out of his sister’s house after he tried molesting her.
