25-year-old Nishu was in love with Banti but her family was opposed to their relationship. The girl eloped with Banti on July 18 and later returned to the boy's house.

When Vijai Pal, father of the girl, came to know that the couple had returned, he went to the place yesterday and opened fire on his daughter, they said, adding the girl was unhurt in the firing.
