In a statement in Imphal, MPCC said it condemned the shooting of Bishenpur district Congress committee president W Maipak Singh by unidentified gunmen at his house at Oinam in the district on March 11.

Hospital sources said Singh who suffered three bullet wounds was now in critical condition.

The MPCC statement said the party also strongly condemned the attack on the house of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee L Tilotama by unidentified gunmen on March 14 at Singjamei area in Imphal west district.

Militants had opened fire at the house of Tilotama but there was no casualty, police sources said.

An MPCC meeting presided over by its president Gaikhangam and attended by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on Monday, had decided to appeal to Congress workers to remain vigilant in view of series of attacks on party workers.

A militant outfit had earlier said it would target and punish Congress workers who were close to Chief Minister Ibobi Singh as latter's government was allegedly involved in the killings of innocent civilians in alleged encounters with the security personnel.
