The meeting came ahead of the talks between National Security Advisor MK Narayanan and his Chinese counterpart Dai Bingguo in New Delhi next week to take forward discussions on the boundary issue.

India had said that the talks will move forward on the basis of the Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles signed between the two countries in April 2005.

Both countries agreed to speed up efforts to resolve the nagging boundary dispute and to not allow it to hamper all-round development of ties that took place during Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to India in November last year.

New Delhi and Beijing were of the view that an early settlement of the boundary issue should be pursued as a strategic objective as it will advance the basic interests of both countries.
