MANTRALAYA WILL take on BSNL in the final of the Sanchi Trophy Cricket Tournament to be played on March 22 at Old Campion Grounds.

In the first semifinal, Mantralaya won the toss against Bhopal Dugdha Sangh (BDS) and opted bat first. With the help of a splendid half-century by Adil, Mantralaya set a 199-run target for BDS in the stipulated 25 overs. He scored 62 runs off just 55 deliveries.

Good bowling by the BDS skipper M K Bhatnagar restricted Mantralaya under 200 runs. He scalped four wickets conceding 19 runs in four overs. Chasing the total, BDS openers gave a good start but the lack of support from the middle order led to the team’s defeat by 25 runs. Skipper Bhatnagar scored 17 runs. Adil was declared Man of the Match. The second semifinal played between BSNL and BMC was won by BSNL.

The attraction of the match was the innings played by BSNL skipper Suresh Chenani. After winning the toss, BSNL batted first. But the poor batting by the top order created problems for the team.

When the team was struggling at 94 runs for the loss of four wickets, Chenani came out to play a gutsy innings. His quick-fire 34 runs included three sky-rocketing sixes and one boundary. Mohnish Mishra contributed 21 runs.

Chasing the target, BMC batsmen could not repeat their earlier performance and fell like ninepins. The team was all out for 104 runs. After a good knock of 34 runs, Chenani bowled a fine spell also. He claimed two important wickets. He was declared man of the Match.
