The 24-hour shutdown affected some pockets in Gumla, Simdega, Khunti and West Singhbhum districts, but hardly had any impact in Palamau division, Hazaribagh and Chatra, police said in Ranchi.

Maoists observed the shutdown to demand immediate production of their leader Divendu Kumar Singh alias Subodh alias Anand in court.

Subodh was arrested by the special task force of Bihar police in Ranchi on Friday and Rs 18 lakh was seized from his possession, police officials in Patna said.
