Security forces today faced intense firing by Maoists when they raided a forest area in Salboni here on a tip-off that the ultras had taken shelter there.

A team of the police and Joint Forces, who went to the forest adjoining Babuibasha village here, retaliated by firing 63 rounds after which the Maoists escaped leaving behind arms and ammunition, police said.

Two directional landmines, 45 rounds of bullets, a .315 rifle, a gun and a charger were seized from the spot, they said.
