On Thursday, the Hindu community will celebrate `Dhanteras’. They will purchase utensils and jewellery articles on this day. The markets are flooded with customers purchasing clothes and other items. A number of roadside shops have mushroomed in busy areas.

As a result of this unprecedented turnout of customers in view of Diwali and Id celebrations, a number of roads such as Godualia-Chauk, Nai Sarak-Lahurabeer and Kabir Chaura-Maidagin are witnessing massive traffic jams in the evening.

Members of Hindu community, especially traders, perform Laxmi puja to mark the festival of Diwali. Kids light crackers and fire-works, whereas women decorate floors with various patterns of `rangoli’ on this occasion.

Apart from this, several organisations plan cultural events in view of Diwali celebrations. Sri Ram Niwas Little Flower House organised a cultural event in Ashapur area on Tuesday evening. Kids dressed in traditional clothes staged several scenes of Ramleela on the occasion.

Sri Shudwadwait Jap-Yajna Samiti will organise a two-day Diwali mahotsava in Chaukhamba area on Thursday and Friday. The samiti also will organise a painting, `Aarti thaal’ and stall competitions during the festival.

The district administration is making proper security arrangements to avoid any eventuality during Diwali or Eid celebrations in the city.
