They say 13 is an unlucky number, and so it proved for Hayden.

The tall opener was dropped after 13 games and a year into his one-day international career and had to wait a further six years for a second bite of the cherry.

However, when the opportunity came he made no mistake and has since become a fixture in the one-day set up.

That second coming came in February 2000 and Hayden's average is almost double the 26 he notched over his first 13 outings.

Hayden's strength is his strength.

He hits the ball hard on both the off and on-side and is a formidable presence at the top of the order in partnership with Adam Gilchrist.
