At a time when several developmental and civic maintenance projects have come to a grinding halt for want of funds, mayor Sovan Chatterjee had no qualms lavishing R25 lakh of taxpayers’ money to procure Titan watches for 1,819 civic employees.

The municipal secretary’s department at the civic headquarters reportedly made bulk purchases of high-end Titan watches, complete with day and date reading capabilities, on Friday. The watches, reportedly purchased from the World of Titan outlet in New Market, have already been handed to all enlisted employees assigned with the waiver scheme project of the civic headquarters.

“This is our token of appreciation for the hard work that they put in to mop up over R350 crore worth of property tax dues by way of the waiver scheme. The move to award these employees was announced earlier and has been long overdue,” member, mayor-in-council Debabrata Majumder told

MOLESTATION

The woman was reportedly chatting with her husband, a taxi driver, at 9 pm when suddenly three passing youths tugged at her.
