The scrutinising of nomination papers for mayoral and corporator post was started at district Collectorate. For the post of mayor, the nomination papers of Congress president Shivshambhu Nishad and Purvanchal Rajya Banao Dal candidate Arvind Jaiswal were cancelled, as the candidate had not submitted the authority letter for allotment of party symbol. Congress had allotted the party symbol to Ramesh Gupta who had recently joined the party defecting BJP.
It is noteworthy that as per direction of state election commission for authorise candidate of political party, the name of one person should proposed one name, while in case of independent candidate five proposals were required but Nishad and Jaiswal name were proposed by one person and they had not submitted the authorised letter of the party.
Therefore, deputy election officer NN Lal cancelled their nomination papers.
Now, there are 18 candidates in the fray for mayoral post including BJP candidate Anju Chaudhary, SP candidates Sitaram Jaiswal, Congress candidate Ramesh Chand Gupta, BSP supported candidates Chhedi Prasad Jaiswal, National Loktantric Party candidate Mohd Islam, Apna Dal candidate Mohd Arif Bhakol, RLD candidate Janardhan Singh and 11 independent candidates.
The election officer also cancelled around two-dozen nomination papers for the corporator post after scrutinising of the papers.
Congress candidate for corporator face tough time and were in state of confusion as the election officer cancelled their nomination papers.
Virtually, these candidates had submitted their papers as an officials candidates and only one person proposed their name.
They failed to produce authority letter for allotting the symbol in time. Hence, they were deprived off the status of party candidates.
At the same time these one dozen candidates were out of fray, as five persons and a single person proposed them cannot treat them as an independent candidate as there was a need to propose the name.
