MCD pulls down about 700 illegal structures

The Corporation also sealed 249 shops and offices in seven civic zones as part of its Supreme Court-ordered drive.

Stepping up its drive against unauthorised constructions, the MCD on Tuesday demolished about 700 illegal structures, including 600 hutments and some 70 shops, in different parts of the Capital.

The Corporation also sealed 249 shops and offices in seven civic zones as part of its Supreme Court-ordered drive against commercial establishments operating in residential areas, according to MCD officials in New Delhi.

MCD bulldozers tore down 64 shops operating in two multi-storeyed buildings in Krishna Nagar area in East Delhi and demolished 13 residential properties under construction in various parts of Shahdara South zone.

It also demolished three multi-storeyed commercial buildings in the posh M-block market in Greater Kailash area.

The civic body had on Monday also taken action against three commercial properties in the market.

The civic body also pulled down 15 residential buildings under construction in Chattarpur Extension area of Central zone.

Over 600 slum clusters, most of them pucca structures, erected on government land were demolished in Wazirpur Industrial area of Civil Lines zone, MCD officials said.

Continuing the sealing action, MCD men shut down 249 shops and offices spread across seven civic zones, including 70 in Central, 68 in Civil Lines and 51 in West, of the Capital.
