FAST FOOD joint McDonald’s was sealed by some Nagar Nigam officials and cops this afternoon reportedly for flouting parking lot norms. The food joint had started functioning as part of ‘Atlantis Mall’, a multiplex coming up on the MG Marg in the Civil Lines. Its owner Ajai Singh, son of former PM VP Singh, was not in town for comment.

However, Ashish Chopra, a CA, who is supervising the remaining part of the construction expressed surprise over the sudden move of the administration to take recourse to such a step even when all building norms have been adhered to and the structure was coming up as per the map sanctioned by the ADA.

He said he was wondering as to how NN officials could interfere in the affairs of the building when the plan has been sanctioned by the ADA.

“We have a massive parking place in the basement which can accommodate many cars at a time. When we tried to ask one of the cops the reason behind the step to seal without any prior notice, he said it was being done because of flouting of parking norms.” Chopra said it was difficult to understand as to why the NN had adopted a pick and choose policy in their case when they had constructed the required parking slot. In fact, there were several other buildings in Civil Lines where this action would have been more appropriate, he said. He added the move now appeared to be politically motivated. Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Gaya Prasad said he had no knowledge about the sealing of the McDonald outlet by his department. DM Amrit Abhijat could not be
contacted.

However, ADA V-C Raja Ram Upadhayaya said the action had been taken by the Nagar Nigam because the parking place provided in the building was not as per the norms. He said a number of vehicles were being parked in front of this building on the road which created traffic problems. He said, action in case of others would also be taken soon.
