MP CONSULTANCY Organisation (MPCON) and National Centre for Human Settlements & Environment (NCHSE), jointly organised an interaction meet on ‘Towards effective management with Geographical Information System (GIS)’ at Hotel Palash Residency today.

The objective of the meet was to showcase the applications of GIS in urban and rural areas, GIS based rural information system and on how data-based queries could be utilised for effective planning.

Retired bureaucrat MN Buch addressed the gathering and elaborated on the effective management with GIS. Chairman and managing director of MPCON Dr P K Lahiri also addressed the programme.

BHEL’s ex-general manager Dr VD Garde presented an overview of GIS, whereas UNICEF’s Veena Bandopadhyay explained how the UNICEF, along with the state government, had been working on a module on decentralised planning in two districts.
“GIS is a handy decision-making tool for survey programmes,” she added.

On the occasion, presentation was made on health information management system in MP and village-level mapped database.
