His assertion has come as a blow to a group of 16 Congress MLAs lobbying with the High Command for replacing Chief Minister DD Lapang with a "more efficient leader".

The dissidents also want senior party leaders accommodated in the ministry besides the axing of independents from the Lapang Cabinet.

The Congress has 28 MLAs in the 60-member House, and the alliance government it heads has four independents and 12 from regional parties.
