Hollywood star Mel Gibson is coming back to acting after a six-year hiatus with a new film Edge of Darkness.

The thriller marks the big screen comeback of the Lethal Weapon actor who chose to stay behind the camera in recent years, directing movies like The Passion Of The Christ and Apocalypto, reports thesun.co.uk.

In the film, the 53-year-old plays a cop whose daughter is gunned down on a visit home. As he sets out to find her killer, he uncovers her secret life and a plot to silence her.

Also starring Ray Winstone, Edge of Darkness is slated for February 2010 release.
