Memorials in Delhi on land 'enough for 80,000 housing plots'

Information provided by the central public works department (CPWD) - provided last week on an RTI plea filed way back in June 2010 - gets further perspective by the fact that the union government paid Rs 1.53 crore in 2009-10 to the central industrial security force (CISF) and Rs 34.65 lakh to others deployed to look after these memorials.

The memorials range from Rajghat for Mahatma Gandhi, the samadhi of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri and his wife Lalita, to one for Haryana leader Devi Lal.
