Gwalior recorded 2.7 degrees of minimum temperature, giving tough time to the residents. Bhopal also recorded the coldest night of the season intervening Sunday and Monday with temperature coming down to 6.8 degrees.

This is first time that temperature went down below 7.0 degree mark in Bhopal this season. The lowest minimum in the last ten years in the State capital was however chilling 4.1 recorded on January 25 in 2001.

There is some good news though with the Met office forecasting rise in the minimum temperature in the next 24 hours under the influence of a western disturbance moving from Rajasthan to Delhi.

Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre Dr D P Dubey told Hindustan Times that the minimum temperature across the State would rise by at least a degree due to moisture incursion that would lead to clouding.

This system would also cause clouding over Delhi and increase in snowfall activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, people across North, Northeast and Central MP experienced the biting cold during the last two days.

The biggest sufferers were the destitute who had to spend the night under open skies. Though administration in several parts have made some heating arrangements for destitute like lighting of public bonfire and distribution of blankets, it became difficult for poor people to fight off the chill.

In Bhopal, people rushed home early on Sunday night to save themselves from severe cold condition. Though January is normally quite cold in Bhopal, the temperature slumps below 7.0 degrees only in third week.

Last year, the lowest temperature of the month was recorded on January 20 at 6.4 degrees.
