Metro drive for senior citizens

The Delhi Metro is going to launch a special drive at its originating stations on Saturday and Sunday to facilitate the smooth entry and seating of senior citizens and commuters with disabilities inside Metro trains. HT reports.

The drive will be conducted on weekends starting from this Saturday and will continue for a month. The stations which will be covered during the drive are Dilshad Garden, Rithala, Huda City Centre, Jahangirpuri, Dwarka Sector 21, Noida City Centre and Vaishali.

"Special teams comprising customer relations assistants and guards will be deputed at these stations, who will facilitate the entry and then seating of senior citizens and commuters with disabilities inside the trains," said Anuj Dayal, chief spokesperson of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The station managers of the respective stations will supervise the exercise and the operations managers, in charge of the respective corridors, will ensure that the drive is conducted properly at both the originating stations under their purview, Dayal said, adding that the special drive would be organized to generate awareness about the proper utilization of reserved seats for senior citizens and the differently-abled people.

Presently, each six coach train has a total of 64 seats reserved for the senior citizens and commuters with disabilities. In the eight coach trains, the number of reserved seats increases to 88.
