Militant killed in Manipur encounter

An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with combined forces of police commandos and Assam Rifles in interior Thoubal district of Manipur in the wee hours on Thursday, the police said.

An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with combined forces of police commandos and Assam Rifles in interior Thoubal district of Manipur in the wee hours on Thursday, the police said.On learning that some militants were roaming at Khunou, about 35 Kms south-east of here, the security personnel launched a manhunt in the area at around 0130 hours.

Some militants fired upon them when they reached close, the sources said adding that in the ensuing encounter one militant was killed. One 9 mm pistol with some rounds of ammunition and a hand grenade were found from the spot.The body has been sent to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital here for post mortem.Over 120 persons were so far killed in militancy-related crimes in Manipur this year.
