Three tribal leaders of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) have been kidnapped by militants from Tripura, police said on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson said armed members of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) attacked late on Monday a group of people working in village Tulashikhar, 65 km west of Agartala.

The three CPI-M leaders were supervising the work and were seized by the rebels at gunpoint, a police spokesman said.

The abducted men are Falendra Debbarma, Amulya Debbarma and Ranjan Debbarma. All three are village committee chiefs of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), a tribal welfare body.
