A seven-year-old girl was in a critical condition in a Noida hospital on Tuesday after allegedly being raped by her father's tenant, who was thrashed by angry crowds before being handed over to the police.
The accused, Raju, 20, was arrested early on Tuesday for allegedly raping his landlord's seven-year-old daughter at their residence in Noida's Sector 58.
Raju, who had been living there for the last nine months, called the victim into his room on Monday night before allegedly raping her, police said.
The matter came into light when the girl complained to her parents, who immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital. Her condition is stated to be critical.
After hearing the girl's story, crowds gathered and beat him up before giving him up to the police. He escaped with minor injuries.
"We have arrested the accused and further investigations are underway," Senior Superintendent of Police (Noida) Rajiv Sabharwal said.
Exactly two weeks ago on April 3, an angry mob lynched a man for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in Noida's Nithari village, from where at least 20 children were sexually abused and killed.
