WHAT HAPPENS when a graduate girl’s marriage is fixed by her policeman father with an undergraduate boy? The girl refuses to marry someone academically junior to her.
The father then manages to persuade his younger daughter, a minor, to marry the youth. The groom’s side too doesn’t have any objections to the revised marriage proposal.
The baraat was all set to arrive but suddenly things change for better at that.
RU Dwivedi, a constable posted at the Police Lines had settled the marriage of his elder daughter with Anoop, a resident of Sitapur on May 11. But the daughter refused to marry a guy who had passed intermediate only. Now, both the families got together and agreed to marry Anoop with Dwivedi’s younger daughter.
The wedding invites were published and distributed and the pre-marriage ceremonies also took place.
The stage was all set for the baraat but on Wednesday night the cops from the Mahanagar police station reached the place and urged the cop not to go ahead with the wedding as the state women’s commission had received a complaint in this regard.
Mala Dwivedi, member of the State Women’s Commission, police told the family, had approached the SSP in this regard.
On Thursday morning, the cop, his daughter and the groom’s family were called to the Mahanahar police station where inspector Mahanagar Ramesh Chandra Dubey played the mediator.
The minor girl said that she had not made any complaint and that “some people” were unnecessary trying to prevent her marriage.
However, finally good sense prevailed and both sides decided to call off the marriage. No case was registered in this connection.
