The ruckus began after rebel Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam MLA Tamilazhagan praised the CM's efficiency. His party colleagues moved near his seat even as he found help from fellow rebel MLA Michael Rayappan. In a melee lasting around two minutes, a blow landed on Rayappan, who retaliated.

Speaker D Dhanpal directed the marshals to evict the unruly members. He said video proceedings would be reviewed and members found guilty of behaviour unbecoming of an MLA would be punished.
