The Executive Council of Allahabad University has already resolved to maintain Moti Lal Nehru Medical College and its associated Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital.

In view of this, the Allahabad High Court directed the Allahabad University authorities to take necessary steps so that the integration of the Moti Lal Nehru Medical College, in the Allahabad University could be completed on or before October 1.

Passing this order, a Division Bench comprising Justice Sunil Ambwani and Justice Dilip Gupta directed the AU to inform the Court about the steps taken in this direction on the next date i.e. August 25.

Earlier, the Allahabad University was a state university and Moti Lal Nehru Medical College was associated with it.

Last year when the AU was declared a central university, the issue whether the MLNMC would remain associated with the State government or with Allahabad Central University, remained unresolved.

During the course of hearing of this writ petition, the State government filed an application raising objections in the matter of integration of MLNMC and its associated hospitals with Allahabad University. After arguing the matter for sometime, Advocate-General SMA Kazmi withdrew the application.

The Executive Council of AU had already resolved to maintain the MLNMC and SRNH. It had also requested to include the Children’s Hospital and Eye Hospital, associated with the College, to be included for being maintained by the AU.

The court passed these directives on a writ petition (no- 32844 of 1997) filed by Satish Chaturvedi.
