They also ransacked a police post and set ablaze two motorcycles of police personnel there.

The incident occurred at around 2 in the afternoon today forcing traders to down their shutters. The mob fury even forced the police personnel in the police post to flee the spot.

The mob rampage continued for over an hour till the arrival of heavy police personnel accompanied by the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and the PAC, who control the situation.

Sources said that Sunil Sahni (26) son of Kedar Sahni was arrested by the Shahpur police in connection with a three-wheeler theft.

During interrogation, police thrashed Sunil and he died in the police custody.

Later his body was thrown in the Tikonia jungle under the Pipraich police station.

The body of Sunil was recovered and identified on Wednesday and his parents blamed the Shahpur police for their son’s death .

The custodial death generated strong reaction among local people and Sunil’s mother even started a dharna near the Asuran Crossing today.

Thousands of students and local people gathered Asuran Crossing and also raised slogans against the district administration that remained unmoved over the incident even after road blockade and dharna.

The insensitive and neglecting attitude of police officials added more fuel to the fire and the agitated mob resorted to stone-pelting on heavy vehicles and also staged a dharna on the busy road. The normal traffic was disturbed for half-an-hour.

They also pelted stone on the roadways buses and trucks and the police failed to check them.

Later, senior district and police officials rushed to the spot and suspended the Shahpur police station in-charge and order him to report in the Police Lines.
Heavy police force was deployed in the area to avoid any untowaed incident
