A moderate 5.4-magnitude earthquake jolted the Himalayan region of Kashmir on Friday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake shook buildings in Srinagar, the main city in the Indian part of the mountainous region, sending residents rushing from their homes in panic, an AFP correspondent said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The USGS said the epicentre of the quake was 91 kilometres (57 miles) west of Srinagar and 93 kilometres northeast of the Pakistani capital Islamabad -- a mountain area marking the Line of Control that divides the Indian and Pakistani administered parts of disputed Kashmir.
