Moderate quake shakes Nicobar coast

The tremor, 5.7 on the Richter scale, occurred at 5.42 am today.

An earthquake of moderate intensity was felt off the west coast of the Great Nicobar Island on Thursday, India Meteorological Department said.

The tremor, measured at 5.7 on the Richter scale, occurred at 5.42 am IST on Thursday morning, the met office said. The epicentre of the quake was at 6.3 degrees North latitude and 92.1 degrees East longitude.

Another quake of moderate intensity was recorded off the west coast of Northern Sumatra at 6.27 am IST on Thursday.

The tremor, measured at 5.8 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre at 5.9 degree North latitude and 93.8 degrees East longitude, the met department said.
