Srinagar chief judicial magistrate (CJM) on Saturday issued an arrest warrant against the state's former minister of state (MoS) for health, Shabir Ahmad Khan, in connection with a case of sexual assault registered against him.
The warrant was issued a day after Khan, a Congress leader, resigned from the post after a doctor had alleged that he molested her at his office in Srinagar.
Though the police have summoned Khan for questioning, he has evaded them so far. The FIR was registered on directions of a court here on Thursday, nine days after the incident took place on January 28. The police had forwarded the case's FIR to the CJM on Friday. It is being said that he is living with his sister in Sunjwan, Jammu.
So far, police have questioned three employees at the Srinagar secretariat in connection with the sexual assault case, and have also clicked photographs of the cabin where the minister had allegedly tried to molest the doctor.
A source said the employees had told the police that the minister had enquired about the lady doctor many times before she arrived at the office at 2.30 pm on January 28. "The employees also said the doctor looked 'very furious' after she came out of the minister's retiring room," the source said, adding that the employees also told the police that the minister too looked nervous.
