Delhi shivered on Monday – the coldest day of this season so far. The mercury fell to 2.6 degrees Celsius. It was the second-coldest January 8 – after last year, when the minimum temperature had touched zero degree Celsius on the same date – in the past five years.

“The cold wave can be attributed to a certain spell wherein the dry northwesterly wind is adding to the chill,” said the duty officer at the Safdarjung Met office.

The Met department has forecast a relatively warmer Tuesday. The minimum temperature is likely to be 4 degrees Celsius. “It will be partly cloudy, making the day hazy,” said the duty officer.
