The Madhya Pradesh government will finance the cost of living of backward class students pursuing higher education in New Delhi, an official said.

"The state government will not only meet the house rent, water and electricity charges but also provide stipend and a lump sum grant to economically weak Other Backward Classes (OBC) students desirous of pursuing higher studies in the national capital," said Jabbar Dakwala, director, backward classes and minorities welfare.

"The state government has accorded financial and administrative sanctions for ensuring the benefit of the Chhatragraha Yojana (students hostel plan) to 50 such OBC students in New Delhi," said Dakwala.

"The government will make the payment of the house rent at the rate of Rs 1,000 per student per month and water and electricity charges for a period of 12 months at the rate of Rs 50 per student per month on behalf of such students."

"In addition to this, each student would be paid scholarship at the rate of Rs 500 per month for a period of one year. Such students will be provided a lump sum grant of Rs 2,000 at the time of their admission in educational institutions in New Delhi," he added.
