The 49th Maharashtra Foundation Day was celebrated on Friday by paying homage to 105 martyrs who laid down their lives for 'Samyukta (United) Maharashtra'.

On the Golden Jubilee Year of the creation of Maharashtra, in an official programme held at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai, Governor S C Jamir greeted all the citizens.
Jamir unfurled the national flag to mark the celebrations of the day and inspected the ceremonial parade and delivered the Maharashtra Day Message to the people on this occasion.
"Over the past five decades, Maharashtra has emerged as a leading state in terms of socio-economic progress and development. It has pioneered several public-oriented schemes and programmes for the welfare of the poorest of the poor," the governor said. He also expressed satisfaction over agricultural and industrial growth in the state.
"It has attracted Foreign Direct Investment worth Rs 75,000 crore in the state," he said. The Governor later participated in the Maharashtra Day Celebrations organised by the Mayor Shubha Raul at her official residence.
