One of the most-awaited movies of the year, the film, which is the second instalment of hit comedy Munnabhai M.B.B.S about the lovable goon and his misadventures in a medical college, is slated to hit the screens on September 1.

It will see much of the original cast, Sanjay, Arshad and Boman, with some new teammates - Vidya Balan, who replaces Gracy Singh, and Dia Mirza.

Director Raju Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who made the first part, have teamed up once again for the sequel.

It isn't novel for Bollywood dream merchants to recycle ideas and package them in a new format, but the fact that most sequels this summer have turned out to be better than the originals is what has surprised trade analysts.

Hrithik Roshan starrer Krrish, part two of Koi... Mil Gaya, was a phenomenal success and Phir Hera Pheri, in which Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty teamed up again, has been a huge hit.

The unprecedented success of the two films has written a new chapter in the history of Bollywood, which hasn't had a successful sequel till now.

As far as Lage Raho Munnabhai is concerned, the film has been in the news since it went on floors and there was much hype over the name.

Initially, it was titled Munnabhai Meets Mahatma Gandhi and later Munnabhai 2nd Innings, but Chopra didn't like either.

Following the footsteps of Vishal Bharadwaj, Chopra conducted a poll for selecting an apt title for his film. An astounding 83 per cent voted for Lage Raho Munnabhai as it had a nice zing.

If the unforgettable characters in the original struck a chord, part two also promises to be a heart-warming, rib-tickling laugh riot.

Sanjay is once again the disarming, philosophical Bhai and Arshad the hilarious and touchingly loyal Circuit. Vidya Balan is Jhanvi the radio jockey Munna has lost his heart to even before he has seen her.

Boman is Lucky Singh and once again Munnabhai's adversary. He's a rich builder, whose Gurdaspur roots are very much evident in his lingo and his demeanour.

The battle between Lucky and his nemesis Munna has all the ingredients of a laughathon.

The twist in the tale comes when Munnabhai comes face to face with Mahatma Gandhi (Dilip Prabhawalkar) and both stick to their respective philosophies even while they are compelled to work together for the same goal.
