The Muslim clerics on Tuesday asked India to recall its ambassador to Denmark in the wake of publication of the Prophet's caricature in a Danish newspaper.
They also decided to hold demonstrations in Amethi and Rae Bareli, the Parliamentary constituencies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi respectively, to protest the government's vote at the IAEA meeting against Iran for its controversial nuclear programme.
The noted Shia leader Maulana Kalbe Javaad made the announcement at a joint press conference in Lucknow addressed by leaders including the state President of All India Muslim Majlis Khalid Sabir, State president of Jamat-e-Islami Muhammad Ahmed and the Imam of Shahi Tilewali Masjid Fazlur Rehman Waizi Nadwi.
"We have decided to hold demonstrations in Rae Bareli and Amethi to register our protest against the UPA government's decision to side with the United States on the Iran issue as it will make the government realise its mistake and also our anger", Kalbe Javaad said.
Denouncing the Centre's decision on Iran, he said this showed that our foreign policy was no longer independent.
Disclosing that the demonstrations would be "religious", he said they would also be held in the state capital. The dates of the demonstrations would be announced shortly, he added.
