The Muslim organisations feel that Surya Namaskar does not conform to Islamic beliefs and though the government says that the decision is not binding, Muslims are being forced to abide by it.
The delegation comprised Maulana Mohammad Ahmed, the nazim of Jamia Islamia, Sahabzada Abdur Rashid Khan, president of National Minority Development Service Front, and Jamiat Ulama’s Noorullah Yusuf Zai, apart from other representatives.
“It is an absolutely unnecessary directive and Muslims are being taught the mantras of Surya Namaskar”, said the delegation members who urged the Governor to intervene into the matter and excuse the Muslims from this order. The delegations members said that this would adversely affect the studies of students, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
