Since the last week of October, everyday the mysterious disease claimed one life while affecting others but the health officials of Kushinagar district turned a blind eye to the situation. In Khuthi village alone 14 deaths of children were reported in five localities of the village. Khuthi is a large village and there are 56 localities, which are far flung from each other. The symptoms of the disease claiming life were the same: hay fever followed by the vomiting of blood. Most of the death took place in a private hospital where the parents took their children while only one death that of Arbaz son of Shafiullah was registered in a community health centre.

Earlier on October 24 three children died in Khairatwa village, six days later two children each from Sohasa, Mathia and Parwapar villages succumbed to this mysterious disease. While a week later two children died due to it in Pachperwa village under Nebua Naurangia areas. Interestingly when the reporters contacted the medical officials to confirm the death by this mysterious disease administration failed to provide any information.

However, when the death toll reached 31, Chief Medical Officer of the district Dr MQ Khan admitted to the fact and claimed that medical teams have been deployed in the areas and intensive fogging was being carried out.
