Hundreds of brickbatting villagers of Basuli Chak chased the policemen when they (policemen) were engaged in removing roadblocks put up by the farmers to prevent police entry into the villages, police said.

The farmers were agitated over acquisition of land for a SEZ to be set up by Indonesia's Salim group.

Meanwhile, shops and markets were closed and no vehicle was plying here in view of bandh calls given by Trinamool Congress, BJP and Congress to protest the violence on Sunday that left at least six persons killed and 25 injured.

The opposition parties allege that the ruling CPI(M) has unleashed terror at Nandigram.
