Modi, who guided his party to a convincing win in the recently concluded assembly elections in Gujarat, was given a rousing reception by the Delhi unit of the BJP on arrival at the airport in New Delhi.

Modi's victory in Gujarat had fuelled speculation that he had become bigger than the BJP and would seek a greater role in party affairs at the Centre. Modi, for his part, had dismissed such suggestions.

The Gujarat Chief Minister met with BJP chief Rajnath Singh, senior party leader LK Advani and sought the blessings of veteran AB Vajpayee.

Modi was sworn in as chief minister on December 25 but is yet to announce his new team of ministers.
