THE FINAL draft of the Narmada phase III project prepared by the local Project Implementation Unit (PIU) will be submitted to the Mayor-in-Council (MiC) for approval at a meeting to be held at Musakhedi on Wednesday morning.

The Rs 406.85 crore Narmada project is being financed by ADB as part of its Urban Water Supply and Environment Improvement Programme (USWEIP). As per the PIU draft, the entire Narmada project has been broken down into 35 packages, which will be operated simultaneously in a bid to meet the 2009 deadline.

At tomorrow’s meeting MiC members will be informed of works proposed under each package, estimated costs for each and the projected date of completion.

A set of five fast track packages was unveiled by the PIU and tenders have already been invited for two of these with bids for the remaining expected to be called next week.

The submission of the draft for the mayoral council’s approval comes in the wake of governmental directives calling for green signal for tenders and packages from elected representatives in each of the four cities to benefit from USWEIP, Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain and Jabalpur.

Originally, the projects were to be prepared by PIUs and forwarded to Project Managing Group with role of corporators restricted to deciding water tax rates.
