The cases were filed on Wednesday evening under IT Act 2000 -- Sections 66 (A) -- separately at Sarkarwada and Bhadrakali police stations in Nashik.

The case at Sarkarwada was registered after Amit Bhaskar Boraste, brother of Sena city president Ajay Boraste lodged a complaint over creation of a group on Whatsapp called 'Mi Nashikkar', which circulated "fake and objectionable" messages along with pictures.

Another case at Bhadrakali was registered on a complaint lodged by one Akash Khode against a Facebook account 'Maratha Ekta' carrying offensive content and pics of MNS MLA Vasant Gite, Congress leaders Shahu Khaire, Vinayak Khaire, and former Shivsena Mayor Vinayak Pande, said in-charge of Bhadrakali police station, Madhukar Kad.

The content allegedly misled people and maligned these leaders, following which offences were registered, Kad added.
