THE NATION’S first water supply project to be developed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis got underway here on Saturday amid hopes that it would finally wash off the taint of water scarcity from Dewas, the State’s oldest industrial township.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan performed the bhoomipujan for Rs 80 crore Dewas Industrial Water Supply Project which, upon completion, will benefit large and medium sized industries in Dewas as well as adjoining areas.
Under the project, 23 million litres of treated Narmada water would be ferried to Dewas from Nemawar, 127 kilometres away, by the BOT operator MSK Projects - a Vadodara-based firm.
The operator will bear the entire cost of the project and, in return, charge a sum of Rs 26.50 per 1000 litres from industrial users. The project will be transferred back to the State Government at zero cost after 30 years.
As per the agreement Madhya Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (MPSIDC) will act as a project regulator
stepping in to ensure that recalcitrant industrialists pay their dues.
Commerce and Industries Minister Babulal Gaur, Higher Education Minister and Dewas MLA Tukojirao Pawar, School Education and Dewas district in-charge Minister Paras Jain, Indore Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma, MPSIDC Chairman Raghav Chandra and Dewas Industries Association president Ramesh Gangwal were also present at the ceremony.
Earlier, the Chief Minister dedicated to the public the newly-built Dewas Mandi as well as the district SP office and the Dewas Industrial Estate police station, both of which were awarded the ISO 9001 certification recently.
Addressing a gathering after foundation stone-laying ceremony Chouhan expressed admiration for the proactive approach taken by the Dewas Industries Association in initiating the BOT water supply project.
